What is the origin of the name "The Heat" for the Miami NBA team?

[edit] Heat's Road Song for their player introduction against the Dallas Mavericks in the Finals

Does anyone know the name of this song? The one that the Heat used to introduce their players in Dallas?

[edit] Name Origin

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that the name was chosen in a "Name the Team" contest.

[edit] "Unworthy Opponents" article - does anyone have it?

From a Boston Globe article on the Miami Heat winning the NBA 2006 Championship:

Wade said the Heat got motivation from an article titled ``Unworthy Opponents" after Game 2 and, as he put it, ``it blew my mind. It blew all our minds.

And from an LA Times article, for confirmation:

"An article that was written, I won't say who it was written by, but [the headline read], 'Unworthy Opponents,' Wade said. "We were unworthy to be playing against them after one game? That blew my mind. It blew our team's mind.

"I kept that in mind. Still got that article."

This article would make a nice piece of historical evidence.

[edit] Players in the Finals with 3 teams

i read somewhere that Shaq and Gary Payton were the 11th and 12th players to reach the finals with 3 different teams, who were the first 10?- well, i found 2 more, Robert Horry and Horace Grant, if someone find more, please put them here

Besides the four you mention, there are: Clyde Lovellette (Minneapolis Lakers, St. Louis Hawks, Boston Celtics), Danny Ainge (Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns), John Salley (Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers), Larry Foust (Fort Wayne Pistons, Minneapolis Lakers, St. Louis Hawks), Max Zaslofsky (Chicago Stags, New York Knicks, Fort Wayne Pistons), Sam Perkins (Los Angeles Lakers, Seattle SuperSonics, Indiana Pacers), and Wilt Chamberlain (Phila.-SF Warriors, Phila. 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers). That only makes 11 though, so either you have the wrong number or I missed one. 72.144.191.179 02:05, 1 September 2006 (UTC)G

[edit] Fifteen Strong

Pat Riley used this phrase during the 2006 championship run. Also notable was the famous covered bowl in the Heat locker room, which remained covered until the Heat won it all. This is very worth mentioning, as these provided the motivation to win the championship.

[edit] Owner?

Zamakda isn't the correct owner. It's Micky Arison / Carnival Cruise Lines. Zamakda owns or was a previous owner of the Guildford Heat, in the UK, not the Miami Heat. I've corrected it. 67.34.126.208 01:03, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Alternate Logo?

Why is the Heat's Alternate Logo listed in the team's template? Dknights411 20:05, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
