"Born to Kill" is the twenty-fourth episode and season finale of the fifth season of the America crime drama CSI: Miami.
[edit] Plot
Two young women leave an all-night party and meet a mysterious motorcyclist outside. He invites one of the women to hop on, and they drive away.
The young woman returns to her apartment later to find that her friend, Shelly Seaver (Chelsey Crisp), has been murdered. C.S.I. is called in to investigate.
Crime Scene Investigator Lieutenant Horatio Caine (David Caruso) and Detective Jake Berkeley (Johnny Whitworth) arrive on scene and find that Shelly was bound with fishing line, was sexually assaulted, and was stabbed multiple times. The scene has been well cleaned.
Coronor Alexx Woods (Khandi Alexander) finds that the killer has marked the body with a cleanly-cut Y post-mortem.
The roommate is interviewed by CSI Calleigh Duquesne (Emily Procter) and Detective Jake Berkeley (Johnny Whitworth). She admits to having told the man on the motorcycle where she lived and leads the CSI's to a cabana where she and the man sat together. The man threw an umbrella when the girl wouldn't agree to have sex with him. Calleigh lifts fingerprints from the umbrella and the CSI's bring in Travis Peck Taylor Sade, who has a knife similar to that used in the killing.
Dr. Woods finds Peck's knife is not a match to her wounds. She finds flesh under the victim's fingernails that indicate she scratched her attacker.
Detective Frank Tripp (Rex Linn) calls Boston and learns that a certain type of fish scales were found on one of the victims, which leads him and Horatio to the only place in Miami where these fish are caught. They bring Lucas Wade (Michael Kelly), a man with multiple knives and visible scratches, in for questioning, and in an interview with Caine and Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez), he admits to having a one-night stand with the victim. He also used to live in Boston.
Meanwhile, Ryan Wolfe (Jonathan Togo) is being interviewed by Internal Affairs Detective Rick Stetler (David Lee Smith) over his past cases. Stetler says he found record of a $6,400 deposit in Wolfe's bank account that makes him think Wolfe took a bribe and says Wolfe must continue to review his tickets until he can explain this.
Berkeley and Duquesne start to set up a dinner date. Lucas Wade's sister, Lindsay (Monet Mazur), interrupts them to ask if she can post bail, and Berkeley takes her inside for an interview.
CSI Natalia Boa Vista (Eva La Rue) finds that DNA from Lucas Wade matches that found on the victim; she also finds that Lucas Wade has an extra Y chromosome, which leads Delko to say he was "born to kill."
Duquesne interviews Lindsay Wade, who says she knew about Lucas's genetic difference. She says that Lucas exhibited signs of violence as a child but that she never believed he was capable of murder.
Another victim, Jennifer Royce (Kim Shively) is found who has died in a similar manner. She was killed within the last three hours, while Lucas was in custody, shifting the suspicion away from him. Delko and Caine go to the scene. Caine talks to the woman's son, Arthur, who found his mother dead when he came back dead. The boy gives Horatio a knife he removed from his mother.
In the lab they find that the knife killed both Shelly Seaver and Jennifer Royce. They find a print on the removable blade
The print matches Rita Bolton, who admits that Luke Wade is her boyfriend and says that she helped pack his fishing kit, which the knife was a part of. Suspicion shifts back to Wade.
While transporting Wade to prison, the tire blows on the van that he and Berkeley are traveling in. Wade, who seems to anticipate the wreck, uses the chance to escape. Berkeley is injured; the driver, a police officer, is killed.
Duquesne and Delko look over the ground around the crash with a metal detector. Duquesne says she heard from the hospital that Berkeley is going to be fine; Delko comments, seeming jealous, that she should go visit him. She says she went to visit Delko when he was hospitalized, and they talk about their relationship: Duquesne says her relationship with Delko is different, because they work together closely and she trusts Delko with her life, when she doesn't even know how she feels about Berkeley yet. They scan the area with a metal detector and find Wade's handcuffs; they've been cut off with a saw and buried, and they find a biker boot-print in the dirt next to it.
Travis Peck is brought back into custody. In an interview with Caine and Tripp, Peck reveals he did time in a cell next to Wade for a year in Boston. He says he and Lucas arranged to meet women, and Travis would distract one girl while Lucas hooked up with (and eventually killed) the other. Peck admits to having loosened the tire on the prison van, and is thus guilty of felony murder.
Wolfe, while reviewing his files, finds out that he pulled Lucas Wade over for driving slowly and looking suspicious several years back, and reveals that he's feeling sick about it to Natalia.
The coroner shows Calleigh blow ups of all of the carved Y's from the four victims, revealing that the last victim had a different killer -- a left-handed killer. Calleigh remembers that Lindsay Wade is left-handed, and the police, led by Caine, go to her motel to pick her up. They find her with a head wound which she sustained when her brother came and kidnapped her daughter, Holly (Cassie Hartmann). Lindsay admits to killing Jennifer Royce in order to make her brother seem innocent and is arrested.
An Amber alert is issued. Delko and Duquesne review the scene. Delko takes Holly's toys back to the lab, where Boa Vista sees among his things a receiver that helps parents track their children, which means that Holly can be tracked once they're within 150 yards.
She goes to see Wolfe and gets the ticket from Wolfe, finds out that he was near Pine Crest when he got the ticket. The CSIs and police descend on the warehouse, and use the locator to try and find Holly.
Duquesne reviews newspaper records at the lab and finds out that Lucas and Lindsay Wade had a baby sister who was killed. She re-interviews Lindsay and finds out that Lindsay killed the baby by accident. She blamed Luke, and his mother believed that he was guilty because they knew about the extra Y chromosome and the stigma it carried. So Lindsay killed Jennifer Royce to try and reduce her guilt by helping Luke go free.
Delko and Caine find Lucas Wade loading Holly onto a boat behind a warehouse. Luke says he has to keep Holly to protect her from Lindsay. They arrest him and rescue Holly.
In the concluding shots, Delko looks on jealously as Duquesne and Berkeley share a kiss, and then she and Delko share a long look. Wolfe, who provided the information leading to the arrest, continues to review his arrest information, and Boa Vista comes in to help him, possibly meant as a sign that he's being brought back in to the team. Tripp looks depressed as he reviews files at a computer. Caine stands triumphantly on top of the lab building.
