The Pirámide del Sol (Spanish for Pyramid of the Sun) is the largest component of the ceremonial architecture that flanks the "Avenue of the Dead" in the ancient Mesoamerican city of Teotihuacán. Built around 150 BC, it was originally dedicated to the worship of Tlaloc, god of rain and fertility, but renamed centuries later by the Aztecs according to their own beliefs. The Pyramid of the Sun is the second largest pyramid in the New World after the Great Pyramid of Cholula in Cholula, Puebla.
