[edit] The Basics

These pages are to complicated to make them look good, so I'm just going to type a bunch of stuff and see how it looks! Well, lets just say my name is "Metalstyle". No one really needs to know my real name on here. I play for a progressive metal/rock band from the east coast, and we are currently on a north american tour as a support band for some really "Heavy Hitters" in the prog scene. My band has released five albums on variuos record labels, but we are currently signed to a label based in California. Im VERY new to wikipedia and I honestly do not have enough time to learn all of the "ropes" but I like to do minor edits from time to time on variuos metal and rock band pages. I play guitar but I also sing and can play keyboards and bass guitar. My musical influences have quite a wide range but my main influences rely heavily on stuff like Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Rush, The Beatles....ect. The heavier side of my material comes from bands like Dream Theater, Opeth, Riverside, Tool.....ect. I could go on for hours about all of my favorite music but that would just get boring, right?

[edit] Advice for Musicians

I often have people of all ages asking me questions about how to be a better musician, get noticed by a label, get shows, get signed by a label....ect. So I thought I'd post some general advice for people who even bother to read this thing.

1) Most important of all, do what feels right to you. Don't just write heavy songs becuase you like "metal" and do not limit yourself! Listen to all styles of music and experiment. Just becuase you like a certain style of music doesnt mean you can't play and enjoy other styles.

2)If you want to start a band, make sure to find bandmates that you can easily get along with, but at the same time you can argue with without causing problems between each other. Communication is key to being in a successful band! Remember: not everything has to be your way all of the time.

3)Write and record a short EP. Usually no more than 3 songs. This then can be used to spread the word about your band to radio stations and labels who accept solicitaions.
