[edit] Comment

I'd suggest Metsamor, unless someone is strongly attached to the current title.

I think the two names are more or less interchangeable. Feel free to change the title. -- Augustgrahl 00:02, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
I'd go for Metsamor and a redir from here, either way it should be consisten with the article about the city Metsamor.

Medzamor Nuclear Power PlantMetsamor Nuclear Power Plant — (Relisting, originally proposed by 212.76.33.86). Eastern Armenian seams more appropriate since the plant is in the Republic of Armenia Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 01:28, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fuel for bombs?

Can the spent Nuclear Fuel used in Metsamor be convirted to make a nuclear bomb, and if so, is it regulated. Iran would have a nuclear neighbor, that would be willing to sell the products for a price.

I haven't heard of any concerns over it. The plant itself is old, unsafe, and wouldn't be running if it weren't for economic aggression from Armenia's neighbors. I think operating the reactor is an act of necessity on Armenia's part, not an attempt to make money. -- Augustgrahl 22:13, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
No, the VVER is a PWR type reactor. The plutonium its spent fuel contains is very low grade (ie rich in higher isotopes), and the uranium it contains is actually depleted in U235, so neither would be useful for making nuclear explosives. Andrewa 09:27, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cooling Water?

Does anyone know where plant gets its cooling water from? Even with cooling towers it needs about 1000 tons of water per hour to replace the evaporation losses, but I can't see any river or sea nearby. --Sanya
