If you search for "Methuen" a small British company is the default redirect. I think it anything the Massachusetts city should be the default, but certainly there should at least be an option.

Please do not continue arbitrarily editing the "Features of Interest" section--I am a resident of Methuen. --140.233.45.53

Minor local persons do not rate Wiki mention. This is not a fan-site. See Wiki POV/NPOV. And even if you are a Methuen resident, you should not keep posting your external link to the teen hate-speak chat board. There's no valid reason a chatboard with sexual and racist topics should be linked to by Wiki.

The chat link will be deleted, it reflects poorly on the town. Sexism, racism and toilet humor need not be rewarded with an Encyclopedia entry. The three persons listed as "notable" - who are they? Granted one is a school principal - hardly worth Wikipedia mention. Who are the others? Authors? Entertainers? None of the three are listed elsewhere on Wikipedia. They will be deleted if there is no acceptable response

The names of the minor personages and the link to the teen-chat board have been removed. MajorRogers 21:49, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

I agree. In fact, I think it is wise that the inappropriate language here is also removed.

[edit] Pronunciation

How is "Methuen" pronounced?

  • Měth-oo-ehn 24.147.229.137 18:40, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
    • M'thoo-in, is how it sounds when the old folks say it. coach 19:43, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
      • Funny, this is the first thing I wondered when I saw the name. Perhaps, someone needs to add this to the beginning of the city explanation. Also, more needs to be added to this page. --Criticalthinker 00:06, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Robert Frost

Can someone please substantiate the claim that Robert Frost ever lived in Methuen? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cbmccarthy (talkcontribs) 15:34, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I will add a citation, that Robert Frost lived IN Methuen sometime between 1890 and 1893 when his mother was a school teacher here. EraserGirl (talk) 18:29, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removed vandalism

David Bowie has not now, nor has ever been to Methuen, never mind lived here. I even know the real name of the Methuenite who added it. So please don't do it again. Okay? EraserGirl (talk) 18:29, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] History

I have enlisted the aid of one of the Methuen Town historians to add a 'History of Methuen' section. He will get to it right after he sends his history of Methuen to the publisher. EraserGirl (talk) 21:00, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] trivia

The fact that Methuen does not share it's name with any other town in the United states is NOT a point of interest, it is trivia. I did however move that piece of interesting data to the history section, since it is still rather spartan. The game show Jeopardy is NOT however a citable source and is completely inconsequential to this piece of general knowledge since Methuen predates Jeopardy by over 300 years. Please only add significant data to the article. EraserGirl (talk) 18:04, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

OK. My bad EraserGirl. Jbriggity (talk) 03:30, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
