Talk:Metaseries

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"...with Meta fanfiction, which is a fan fiction based on an (often elaborate) fanfiction."

Isn't this a circular definition? –Matt 08:44, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

  • Nevermind, the definition makes sense. =) –Matt 11:02, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Origin of term?

What is the origin of this term? A Google search yields only ~25000 links, and Special:Whatlinkshere/Metaseries is primarily anime- and comic-related. It seems that it should really be merged into sequel, side story, media franchise, spin-off (media), or something similar, but I am not sure which one is best. Any thoughts on this? --Andrew Robertson 02:45, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

I started using this term because of this statement in Ken Arromdee's FAQ: "Japan does not have television seasons like the US does. However, Sailor Moon has been divided into several different series, each aired weekly and lasting a year". -- Denelson83 20:09, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, I agree that it could be a useful term in some contexts, but where did you first hear it? I don't see any mention of it in the FAQ link you posted. --AndyR 17:31, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hardly any notable references

To prevent the article from being nominated for deletion, more notes and references should be added to it. I added one, barely. I almost can not find anything outside of Wikipedia content for further explanations and notability. A google search turns up meta series as a more common form of spelling but does not lead me to anything else noted. I could not find anything for DC Comics as well as the other fictional universes regarding the said "metaseries" or "meta series". Does anyone have a magazine issue that can be used for reference(s)? ~I'm anonymous

[edit] Overuse of anime references?

Though the anime metaseries are no doubt good examples, in the realm of television etc. of Western origin there are examples, which are not featured, and the article seems, for the most part, to speak about what makes an anime metaseries, which a coda regarding comic books. What immediately springs to mind are the space operas, most notably Star Trek, with the metaseries spanning several television programmes, soon eleven films, countless books, etc. It just seems to me that anime is not the be all and end all of the metaseries. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.34.207.40 (talk) 05:20, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
