[edit] Construction

The new tower was born out of discussions between two ascending business executives, John Flake, a Little Rock real estate developer, and Jerry Maulden, president of Arkansas Power & Light Co. (now Entergy Arkansas). Construction began in 1984 on the $72 million building, and in 1986 the building was completed and dubbed The Capitol Building. Currently Metropolitan National Bank is owned by Doyle Rogers and headed by Lunsford Bridges.

[edit] The Building Today

Shortly after the completion of construction as The Capitol Building, its name was changed to the TCBY Tower . In October 2004, Metropolitan National Bank, a then $800 million asset bank moved their premises to the 12th, 13th, and 14th floors of the building,[2] and because of this, the tower's name was changed yet again to the current Metropolitan National Bank Tower, in honor of its newest tenant.[3] Now a $1.6 billion-asset bank, Metropolitan continues to have the building named after it. Throughout the year, lights placed along the sides of the building are lighted to different colors in honor of different dates including Independence Day (red, white, and blue), the Central Arkansas Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (pink), Halloween (yellow, brown, green and orange), and Christmas (red and green).
