The Method of Factors is a technique in cognitive behavioral therapy to generate a list of objects or situations that represent escalating levels of arousal and intesnity of fear for a particular phobia. Developing a Method of Factors involves identifying a feared behavior or thing, then identifying actions that would increase or decrease the level of fear experienced at each level, and producing a hierarchy based on these criteria.
