This image contains two excerpts from copyrighted music score. Their inclusion is claimed as fair use because:
- they illustrate an educational article that includes a critical examination of the excerpt;
- they are a small sample of limited resolution that could not be used as a substitute for the original score; and
- they are not replaceable with an uncopyrighted or freely copyrighted sample of comparable educational value.
I believe that this use of these excerpts is in good faith, and that their inclusion enhances rather than reduces the commercial value of the products from which they were drawn; however, if the owners of the copyright wish to challenge this use, I will be happy to remove them promptly, with apology.
