The Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA) is a waste disposal authority that manages the municipal solid waste produced in Merseyside, England. The MWDA's budget comes from Council Tax payments in the region. The Authority's Revenue Budget for 2004/2005 was set in January 2004 at £38.36M. The Authority's budget is funded by way of a levy on each of the Merseyside District Councils and is apportioned on the basis of Council Tax base^[1]. MWDA was established in 1986 following the abolition of the Merseyside County Council^[2]. The current contractors for Merseyside's municipal waste is Mersey Waste Holdings Limited.

The Mersey Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA) is a statutory authority established in 1986 following the aboliition of Merseyside County Council, to undertake the waste disposal for local authorities across Merseyside – Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, Wirral and St Helens. The MWDA takes lead in advocating waste minimisation, recycling and the safe and effective disposal of waste for Merseyside’s residents
