Merriweather Post Pavilion

Merriweather Post Pavilion (MPP), named for cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, is an outdoor concert venue located among Symphony Woods, a 40-acre (162,000-m²) lot of preserved land that sits in the heart of the planned community of Columbia, Maryland. It was originally intended to be a summer home for the National Symphony Orchestra but later became a venue for more popular music concerts. Merriweather is known for its astounding acoustics which are ranked in the top of outdoor amphitheaters. It was designed by award-winning architect Frank Gehry and opened in 1967. The current capacity is 16,500.

High schools in Howard County, Maryland, hold their graduation ceremonies at Merriweather Post in either late May or early June of each year.

Jimmy Buffett has played Merriweather more than any other artist -- over 40 times.

Local leaders banned the Grateful Dead from returning to Merriweather due to rowdy crowds at their shows in the 1980s.

Jackson Browne recorded portions of Running on Empty at Merriweather.

The Eagles recorded a live album at Merriweather in 1977.

Genesis filmed a promotional video for the track "Many Too Many" from their …And Then There Were Three… album at Merriweather in 1978.

On June 20, 2000, Britney Spears opened her Oops!… I Did It Again World Tour at Merriweather.

Led Zeppelin and The Who performed there on May 25, 1969. This was the only time that these two English bands ever performed on the same bill.

HFStival was held at Merriweather in May 2006.

On June 15, 2006, Vans Warped Tour launched at Merriweather; this was the first time that the Vans Warped Tour had come to Merriweather.
