Merocyanine

Merocyanine (or more specifically a merocyanine dye) is a neutral molecule containing a nitrogen atom linked to a carbonyl group through a conjugated chain of carbon atoms. The nitrogen atom is typically contained within a heterocycle.

These dyes are usually intensely colored and have large extinction coefficients.
