Melissa Data Corp. – based in Rancho Santa Margarita, California – was founded in 1985 by Raymond Melissa, a computer industry veteran. The firm provides address and phone verification, postal encoding and data enhancement services, with an emphasis on reliability and cost-effectiveness for small and large businesses. Melissa Data is a longtime member of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and was named by DM Review Magazine as a Top 100 Company in 2003.

Melissa Data helps in the CRM and ERP markets by providing a data quality firewall to prevent inaccurate, incomplete and undeliverable addresses from entering a database.

The company offers data cleansing software and solutions, developer tools, web services and mailing lists designed to improve data quality and maximize response rates. One of Melissa Data’s longtime products is MAILERS+4, which identifies duplicates, automates the bulk mailing process, verifies, corrects, standardizes and adds ZIP + 4, PAVE and CASS Certified delivery address information.

Melissa Data also provides a free lookup service of more than 30 databases. The service offers reference data on ZIP code maps, congressional district maps and U.S. home sales by ZIP code. According to the firm, more than 500,000 users have accessed its lookup service.
