When Meld completed the British fillies Triple Crown by beating Nucleus in the 1955 St. Leger, she enabled Cecil Boyd-Rochfort to become the first trainer in England to have won more than £1 million for his patrons. In view of the way in which she had dominated her rivals in the 1,000 Guineas and the Epsom Oaks, Meld was rather disappointing in the style of her Doncaster success in which she was taking on colts for the first time that year. She won by just under a length, and then had to survive an objection from Lester Piggott, who had ridden Nucleus. But there was a lot of coughing at the time and it was rumoured that Meld herself had coughed on the morning of the race. Like a number of top-class racemares, Meld had a very low-key career at stud, which was saved from complete obscurity by the 1966 Derby success of her son Charlottown who, like Meld, carried the colours of Lady Zia Wernher. Another son, Mellay, also did well as a sire in New Zealand.
