I suggest to cut the connection to Afghanistan, because old Persian or Persian Empire was the land which is now mainly current Iran (the local name was always Iran). Afghanistan's history begins from the time when it was seperated from the Persian Empire - or maybe even later. So speaking about Mehrdad as a part of Afghanistans history is like saying Romulus and Romus are a part of German history just because Germany was some day a place in Roman Empire!
