Hi. Haven't logged into wikipedia for a while. Just found your request for feedback on your Cellular Manufacturing page. I can think of a few things to clarify and add, though I'm a but busy now so it might take me a few days to get around to it.
The most important things to add, in my opinion, would be:
- the intended semi-autonomous nature of work cells to streamline management and quality control;
- the possible use of Kanbans as an effective means of controlling work-flow between cells;
- the important concept of modularity, both of products and of processes, as the key to the promised flexibility and efficacy of cell manufacturing systems;
- the supplier-input-process-output-customer (SIPOC) approach to production analysis; and
- to emphasise the fact that cellular manufacturing is an integral component of and holistic lean manufacturing system, and therefore will not be entirely effective without the other lean aspects such as total quality management, good metrics, product focused responsibility, etc.
I've got a few useful references too.
