[edit] The Strand
The Strand is an electro-industrial group based in Phoenix, Arizona that was formed by Dave Strand in 1999 whose original members included Scott Levy, Kimberly Brown, Jeremy Reich, Steve Laskarides, Neal Parker, and Randall Hampton.
[edit] History of The Strand
Founder, Dave Strand's earliest music dates back to 1990 with his solo Vernon Hills, Illinois based, industrial music project DFMA (Designed for Manufacturability and Assembly). He then went to collaborate with Arman Bastani in Libertyville, Illinois, on a paranormal-themed electro-industrial project titled Ascention Descention. Dave and Arman moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1992, and continued work on Ascention Descention. At this time Dave Strand also began his first attempts at a solo project titled The Strand.
In 1997 Dave Strand and brother Scott Levy relocated to Tempe, Arizona. Recording for The Strand continued here, with early songs including contributions from singer, Sarah Hudson, and beat poet, Dean Barbella. In 1999 Dave Strand assembled the live band, composed of his brother Scott Levy, and friends, Jeremy Reich, Steve Laskarides, Neal Parker, Randall Hampton, and Kimberly Brown.
The Strand's first full length CD release, and first concert performance took place on August 2nd of 2000 at The Power Plant. The flyer's art, created by Dave Strand, prophetically depicted the twin towers crumbling, one year prior to the 9-11 attacks. FLYER IMAGE:Example.jpg The Strand headed a massive campaign to get their music played in industrial clubs by mailing free CDs to 400 DJs across the globe. The band went on to perform several live concerts, some supporting national acts including, VNV Nation, Covenant (band), And One, Imperative Reaction, and Assemblage 23.
In mid 2004 The Strand released their second full length CD titled Diatom, and at the same time released a CD of remixes titled RMX01.
In mid 2007 Kimberly Brown left The Strand to finish her college degree in Houston, Texas. The band held open auditions to find a new singer, Making The Strand, and brought on board Esmeralda Villalobos as Kimberly's replacement. She was shortly after replaced by (Mystery Vocalist). At this time, Jeremy Reich also decided to leave the band for personal reasons, and Elias Lewter was brought on board.
