Mega-Gem

Mega-Gem is an outdoor sculpture by American artist John Francis Torreano on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. It is a large metal diamond shape tilted at an angle, and studded with 36 smaller, colored metal rosettes. The main body of the sculpture is gray Heliarch welded aluminum plate. The rosettes are anodized cast aluminum. The dimensions of the sculpture are 7'2" x 11' x 7'2". Mega-Gem was created in 1989 and acquired by the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 1997. It is credited as the Gift of Robert Shiffler, Contemporary Art Society Fund and Henry F. and Katherine D. DeBoest Memorial Fund.
Mega-Gem is located near the southeast corner of the museum grounds, as part of a small sculpture park containing other contemporary art works. This area is open to the public.
