[edit] FinalWish
I think I can be helpful in resolving disputes. I am knowlagable about many facts and have also joined the meditation program at my school, of which I am running for president of. I have been a member of Wikipedia since 2005, but was never a member of anything except a few stray wikiprojects. I am now an established member of the WikiCommunity and wish to assist in making Wikipedia a better place
Questions from Committee members:
- What are the core principles of Mediation Committee mediation?
- Have genuine desire to find a solution
- Keep a level head
- Never make the private discussions public
- Discussions during formal mediation are privileged; they cannot be used against the parties in later proceedings (e.g. RfArb/RfC). Why is that important?
- Because action of the Mediatation committee, unlike those of the Arbitration committee are not usually binding. Also, Mediation Committee discussion should not be made public. The meditation committee should maintain the private nature of discussions.
- What prior experience do you have in resolving disputes on Wikipedia? Please provide links, and how will these experiences help you to be an effective Committee member?
- I've tried to resolve many disputes, most recently on Talk:Emo rap (which hasn't really gone into words yet, just 1 revert by an anon and change back by me, hoepfully it won't become an edit war.). I'm good at finding reliable citations which can end a dispute almost instantly. There is, admidetly, one I started over listing too many public schools on Wikipedia, but I at least helped end it. (This occoured on my RfD for Thomas Jefferson Middle School, the archive of which I am unable to find)
Mediation Committee:
- Oppose at the moment, I don't believe this candidate has quite enough experience with Wikipedia, both generally and with dispute resolution. I would be very interested in a nomination some time down in the future, per some of the answers to the questions, and would suggest you assist the Mediation Cabal and build up some experience with disputes on Wikipedia during that time. - Hi FinalWish. Looking through your contributions, I think you're the sort of person that would definitely make a good mediator and your experience of mediation off-wiki would be very useful. And actually (despite your worry on my talkapge) I like some of your comments here and think you've got the right idea. The only thing you're lacking is knowledge and experience of disputes on Wikipedia and how to resolve them. So I'd really like to encourage you to get more involved in that side of things first. Your could offer to mediated informally for the Mediation Cabal and/or respond to requests for third opinions. Also, you can look in on WP:RFPP - where pages are often protected sue to edit wars - its often helpful for someone neutral to turn up and help people who've been in the dispute discuss the issues on the talkpage. I think I'm going to have to oppose as this stage, but I hope you won't be too disheartened - I would very much like to see another nomination from you at some time in the future when you have more experience. If you do get involved in mediation-related work on-wiki and want help or advice, don't hesitate to contact me on my talkpage or by email. WjBscribe 02:11, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
