Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2007-10-30 Fellowship of Friends
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Please help resolve a longstanding often contentious dispute on the Fellowship of Friends page. see also WP:COIN for Fellowship of Friends, and follow history of sock puppetry and meat puppetry.
Previous help in mediation resulted in most consensus edits being reverted once the mediator Vassayana had departed.
The page is currently locked due to COIN and edit disputes. A draft page is established but even this is now the subject of bad faith editing.
Two editors have been warned for vandalism. HELP! - thanks one and allWantthetruth? 08:35, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
A note to potential mediators:
- Regarding COIN - the IP has been lifted, though the article is still blocked; it has been blocked before for edit wars; COIN issues are probably not part of the mediation process, are they?
- Regarding Sockpuppetry: allegations have been rampant, and some of them ludicrous, but none have been proved.
- Regarding changes after Vas' mediation: this is a comment that was made by an editor who is no longer editing on WP; I was involved in that mediation but I don't recall any rampant reversions after Vas left, but my memory is not what it used to be, and I can't find a copy of Vas' original draft.
- More than 2 editors have been accused of vandalism, though only 2 are still editing (if memory serves). One of them is the requester of the mediation.
- The reasons for the mediation now: There are currently only two anti-FOF editor active, though others check in now and then these days, and some stay for a long time as needed. He had wanted to add a long section about something (Alex Horn) that other editors, on both sides of the discussion thought did not make sense. He has agreed to a very brief reference, which I have agreed to though no other pro-FOF editors have responded. He has mentioned adding negative information but has not brought anything up on the talk age for discussion, nor added anything to the draft article. I've left a message on the talk page asking him for this clarification. If this (Horn) is the only difference, then I questioned him why he requested mediation, since he has backed off his original demands. Also, he seems to regret that mediation is a necessary step and would prefer to go to Formal Arbitration.
- One more area that is consistently in debate: the criticism section
- Bottom line for me at this time is that Wanththetruth? needs to lay his cards on the table about how he would like to change the article, and also enter mediation in the spirit of mediation, and not as a necessary evil to get to arbitration.
- Suggestions please on how to handle this muddled situation? Thank you.Moon Rising 17:52, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
Note that the article has been stubbed, for better or for worse. Not sure whether the action should be discussed and resolved here or on the article talk page -- anyone's call. — xDanielx T/C 03:47, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
