[edit] Summary

The official logo of the Moo Duk Kwan including the Chinese characters for Soo and Bahk (left and right, signifying the martial art Soo Bahk Do) and Moo in the center meaning "Martial/Military".

[edit] Trademark

"Moo Duk Kwan"[1] and the fist logo[2][3] are federally registered trademarks of the U.S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation and "Soo Bahk Do"[4] and the "Soo Bahk Do logo"[5] are service marks.

[edit] Ownership

The fist logo is a federally registered trademark in the U.S. and readers should be informed of that fact in the context of discussions about it. Failure to fully disclose relevant facts about a topic is unencyclopedic and a violation of wikipedia's own tenants and policies as evidenced by all the notices posted throughout wikipedia about sensitivity to copyrights and licenses. It is reasonable to include the fact of trademark ownership as a valid part of an informative article. Absent that fact the acticle is misinformative and misleading to the public. As an example, the wikipedia article about the trademark Coca Cola is quite informative about the trademark, proper usage and more. SooBahkDo 11:44, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Article

Moo Duk Kwan

Portion used

The entire logo is used to convey the meaning intended and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the intended image.

Low resolution?

The logo is a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the company or organization, without being unnecessarily high resolution.

Purpose of use

The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing Moo Duk Kwan, a subject of public interest. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the organization, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the organization, and illustrate the organization's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey.

Replaceable?

Because it is a logo there is almost certainly no free equivalent. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary.

Other information Use of the logo in the article complies with Wikipedia non-free content policy, logo guidelines, and fair use under United States copyright law as described above.
