Scottish and northern Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Íomhair ‘son of Íomhar,' Gaelic form of the Old Norse personal name Ivarr.Ivar was the Son of Gilspec Of Menstrie before 1294 A.D. He was born at Castle Sween to the Daughter of Rue Sween.He was Gilspec's youngest legitimate son and also carried the name Campbell,his descendants were also known as McIver Campbells.
