First Nations communities in Northern Ontario are an important partner to the mining exploration endevours in the area of McFaulds Lake. These communities include Webequie First Nation[1] and Marten Falls First Nation.

[edit] Mining Interests

Over the past several years, there has been a renewed interest in mining exploration in Northern Ontario. This region north of Thunder Bay, in the James Bay Lowlands has attracted the attention of junior mining exploration companies. Since the 2002 investigation of the area for diamonds, some 20 companies have staked claims in the area, forming joint ventures (JV). While still in the exploration phase, there have been some exciting finds that could bring prosperity to the region and the First Nations communities in that area.
McFaulds Lake is home to the so-called Ring of Fire[2], a region of geological activity which has left a rich source of mineralized rock, buried beneath this remote stretch of muskeg. Currently, there is intense exploration and staking activity from a number of junior mining companies. These companies include:
