I think the wikilinking should be improved to something like 323_(Mazda)

Shouldn't this article be moved to Mazda Motor Corporation and Mazda a redirect? RedWolf 04:49, Apr 21, 2004 (UTC)

FYI all Mazda's compact Japanese-only products are Suzuki-sourced. -- stewacide 02:29, Jun 17, 2004 (UTC)

I made a whole pile of edits and added all sorts of Mazda cars. I hope it's appreciated! -- User:Sfoskett

[edit] pronunciation

Do you say /mæzdə/ or /mɑzdə/? My American friend says the latter, and I hear the former more often in Canada.--Sonjaaa 02:17, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

  • I use the latter in Iowa, and so does everyone else. I've never heard anyone use the former. --DMurphy 05:48, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Australians also use the /mæzdə/ pronunciation. --Xyzzyva 18:26, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mazda did have a badge prior to 1977

I would like to refer to the quote... "In the years prior to 1993, Mazda did not have a logo, only a stylized version of their name." ...Mazda did have a badge prior which was scrapped in 1977. The badge has a rotary housing with a m in the middle

  • The badge you are talking about is not a rotary housing with an "M", it is a rotor with an "M" in the middle. There is also the "M" inside a circle for non-rotary powered Mazda's —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.46.115.39 (talk) 06:00, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ownership

Isn't Mazda wholly owned by Ford now? --Hungoverdrawn 20:06, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. A simple 'no' would have sufficed! ;) --Hungoverdrawn 09:20, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

The article is contradicting, on the right side it say for owns 33.9% vs the article intro says 33.4%. Nothing big but which is it, just so it is uniform.

Both figures are present in official Mazda/Ford communication but the correct figure seems to be 33.9% according to this source with which I'll next update the article. --maf (talk-cont) 22:33, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Logos

"As of April 2007, Mazda will not have an official symbol, only a styled version of their name; the previous flying "m" might be still in use in some dealers for a little longer."

What is this all about? IS their logo being dropped from dealers? vehicles? at all? i have see absolutely no proof for this. please explain

-Pautlorius

Not only is there no proof of the badge being dropped (I've scoured the official press releases and found nothing) The next generation Mazda2/Demio which is being released later this year has already been shown with the badge still in place. Considering there is only about 6 weeks until the beginning of May, I'd say that section is completely false.

[edit] 1979 deal

The "history" section makes mention of "The 1979 deal" as if it's been mentioned previously, but it hasn't. Later, in the "1970's" section, mention is made of Ford taking a 25% stake, so presumably, that is the 1979 deal. Although it's still a little unclear, because the "History" section says that in 1999 Ford increased their stake from 15% to 33.39%, so somehow Ford's stake decreased from 25% in 1979 to 15% in 1999? This should be made clearer, and putting it all in the same section would help. Ppelleti 04:55, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup

I've removed most of the external links (one was blatant advertising couched in a press release, others were regional clubs or web forums with no clear connection to any Mazda company). I'm also removing the Spec Miata site (which is ostensibly "official", either by Mazda or the SCCA, though it's not explained by them) but replacing it with a broader link to Mazdaspeed, which includes that site and several other North American Mazda spec series in its own links section. I also pared down the growing list of country-specific Mazda web site links into a single link to the company's global web site, which links to those sites (and the company's Japanese-language home site) already. [edit] More cleanup

Looking again, I decided to go quite a bit further:

  • Minor proofing and spelling checks.
  • Adjusted the corporate infobox - as far as I can tell, the Zoom-Zoom slogan is now worldwide. Also consolidated to just the one global website.
  • Removed a passage from the History section about trucks, which went into way too much detail about engines, etc.
  • Also edited the History section to remove the Mazda USA portion, as the company's models are better covered (I believe, anyway) with a worldwide outlook.
  • Clarified the bit about Ford's stake in the company (it's now been made clear that they began with 15% in the 1970s, then moved up to the 33% figure in 1999).
  • History has now been fully reworked along a more cohesive timeline.
  • Adjusted image sizing in the Marques section and resized the Logos table a bit (there was a lot of gray space). I would actually argue that the Marques section could be consolidated to a paragraph within the History section, as it does relate in a certain way to Mazda's financial issues during the 1990s (specifically the efforts to create Amati that went nowhere, and the huge proliferation of different models under all those brands). Based as I am in America, however, I'll let someone with better knowledge of the marques involved take a crack at it.
  • Removed a video clip link from the Auto racing section, which was essentially someone's personal drag racing video. Fun, yes (it is an interesting launch), but not exactly notable.
  • Changed the Sports section to Sponsorships and cleaned it up somewhat, adding details and sourcing here and there.
  • Removed the Future section (about a hydrogen hybrid vehicle) and incorporated into History.
  • Removed the Trivia section and incorporated into History. Also created a new Marketing section to house info about the long-running Zoom Zoom campaign.

I might add a photo or two at some point within the History section, but for now I'm satisfied. More sourcing is probably needed for some sections, too, but it shouldn't be hard to find. In any case, the article is now more up-to-date and better organized, which is all I was looking for, really. Duncan1800 (talk) 03:54, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

And then, because I apparently wasn't finished, I went and added some photos. I believe I'm finished for now... Duncan1800 (talk) 04:05, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
