From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The meaning of the position of "Mayor of Cairns" has changed a number of times. Originally the position was for the Mayor of the Town of Cairns. In 1995 Mulgrave Shire Council and City of Cairns Council were amalgamated to create the City of Cairns - thereby creating a new mayoral position. In 2008, the City of Cairns and Shire of Douglas were amalgamated to create the Cairns Regional Council - again, creating a new position, with the same name.
