From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MAXIMUS (NYSE: MMS) is a government and professional services company that provides program management, consulting, and technology services to governments from the local to the Federal level. Based in Reston, Virginia, the company is one of the largest in the Washington, DC metro area.[1] Social-services privatization, including child support services, Medicaid billing and management, and welfare-to-work programs, is a major focus of MAXIMUS' business, and its total caseload in these areas is larger than that of some state governments.[2] In July 2007, MAXIMUS settled a lawsuit brought against it by the United States government for involvement in falsifying Medicaid claims for $30.5 million, with no admission of fault.[3] The company has continued to receive large contracts for government services since settling the suit, including a five-year contract with the state of New York to assist in combating Medicaid fraud.[4]
