Max the Mighty is a children's novel by Rodman Philbrick. Published in 1998, it is the sequel to Freak the Mighty.
[edit] Synopsis
In it, Maxwell Kane helps Rachel, nicknamed "Worm" [because of her love of reading], run from her abusive stepfather, nicknamed "The Undertaker" because he drives in a hearse and wears all black clothing. They also find her father, who turns out to be dead. The father died in the ghost town, Chivalry, Montana, in a mining cave-in. The book ends with Rachel/Worm and her mother coming in to live with Max and his grandparents.
