Max Griggs is the president of the R Griggs Group, current owner of the Dr. Martens shoe company, and one of largest shoe manufacturers in the United Kingdom. The company recently moved all factories etc to the People's Republic of China in an effort to save millions of pounds in wages.

The shoes were most popular in the 1980s, but their sales started to decline as time went on. The shoes are nicknamed DMs.

In 1992 Max Griggs bought Rushden Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds football clubs. He merged them into one and this proved a success. Rushden & Diamonds football club was born. One of the stands in the clubs ground in called the Airwair stand (a type of DM shoe), and until recently the club shop was called The Doc Shop.

Max Griggs sold the club to the fans in 2005 for £1, and occasionally makes donations to the clubs trust.
