how the hell is this copyrighted?

I don't know. If I remove it, then the Wikinerds bitch at me.--jonrev 04:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Technically it would be copyrighted by the creator(s) (not that they are at all likely to come forward and claim the copyright protections) but even so, use of the image here for the incident's article falls well under the fair use guidelines for images. No worries. Rob T Firefly 00:13, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] removed part of fair use rationale

If I may add to the above, since this recording is of a criminal act in progress - to whit the hijacking of a signal - no copyright has ever, nor could ever be claimed. The individual responsible for this intrusion cannot claim copyright without revealing his identity. The broadcaster of this incident similarly cannot claim copyright as they did not produce the footage in question and did not authorize its broadcast on their airwaves. Additional fair use rationale is that this image cannot be replicated as it was a unique event that is known to have occurred only twice. 68.146.47.196 19:43, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Copyright doesn't have to be "claimed" – it applies automatically. The fact that the copyright holder is (likely) a criminal doesn't void his copyright. The fact that the copyright holder is anonymous doesn't void his copyright, either. · Naive cynic · 07:34, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
