New International Encyclopedia states that she married Ballington Booth in p1886 "and, in accordance with with the custom of the Army, assumed her husband's rank as marshal.," "In 1896 she withdrew with her husband from the Salvation Army and founded the Volunteers of America, of which they became directors."
