Maurice Norman

Maurice Norman (born 8 May 1934 in Mulbarton, Norfolk) is a former English football (soccer). His position was centre-back.

During his club career, he played for Norwich City in 35 first team matches between (1951-1955). He signed for Tottenham Hotspur in November, 1955. The fee was ₤18.000 and also included the return transfer of Irish International Johnny Gavin to the Norwich City Club. He played his first game for his new club against Cardiff City, and stayed at the club till 1965 and made 411 appearances and scored 19 goals. He made 23 appearances for the England national football team, including in the 1962 FIFA World Cup. He was also an England squad member of the 1958 FIFA World Cup, but did not play. Maurice broke his leg playing for Spurs against an Hungarian Select XI on 18 November 1965, shortly before Sir Alf Ramsey was to announce his 1966 FIFA World Cup squad. Eighteen months later owing to complications his leg had to be re-broken, and he was forced to watch England win the World Cup while in plaster.

He was an integral part of Bill Nicholson's famous The Double winning Tottenham team of 1960-61, which went onto retain the FA Cup Final 1962 and win the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup 1962-63.

Maurice now lives with his wife Jacqueline in the village of Trimley St Martin near Felixstowe,Suffolk. He was featured in the August,2007. Let's Talk magazine[1]
