[edit] Rules
Unlike other Card games Mow has a set of Laws along with rules. The laws are the only part of the game any new player will ever get to know. The Laws are as follow in one type of game:
¤Everyone is not allowed to know the laws at the start.
¤At the beginning of the game each player is dealt 5 cards by the dealer and then the dealer puts the rest of the pack face down and turns the top one over and puts it by the side of the pack. While doing this he or she must declare the variance of the rules such as "Standard, five card Oxford Mow."
¤Nobody is allowed to speak, except if they are abiding by one of the rules.
¤On your turn you either play a card or draw a card to end your turn.
¤If the card you play is illegal then the dealer will say "bad card", give you your card back and give you a penalty card from the deck and it is still your go.
¤If you fail to abide by a rule a player may give you a penalty card by giving you a card from the pack and a reason for your penalty.
¤When you run out of cards, you must say "Mow, I create". Then you think of a rule. Do not tell anyone what it is.
¤When you are thinking of your rule anyone can speak.
¤Once you have thought of your rule you say "begin game" and draw 5 cards. Play continues to the left.
As aside to that there are many versions, one being with some different rules to Mow(or Mauh):
¤First, The dealer deals 7 cards to each player, only the dealer can touch the cards right now. if someone touches any card(not just their own) You card them(in essence give them a card) and give the reason being i.e touching the cards before the game has begun.
¤( the way it is played is you want to get rid of all of your cards and you can only play the same suit, unless it is changed [ further explained later] and if you cannot play you draw a card from the Pile.)
¤ Second, the dealer sets the rest of the deck face down, turns one card over and says" let the games begin" from this point no one is to talk.
¤ Third, basic rules of the game are as followed:
1) You must say " have a nice day" on any seven. when followed by another seven that person must say " Have a very nice day"
2) When changing suits, they must be the same number or face, when changing to any suit but clubs you knock twice, when changing to clubs you knock 3 times.
3) On any spade card you play you must announce what it is ( if its a five of spades you say " five of spades")
4) When you only have one card left, you proclaim it by saying "Mauh", when that card is gone you proclaim it and say " King Mauh"
5) now that you have won, you get to make up any rule to add that only you know, but it cannot contradict any other rule, i.e the rule to not card a certain person it contradictory to having to card them, or another would be allowing people to talk.
Side notes
¤ At any point in the game if someone says "Point of Order" all players MUST put down the cars or be carded for "touching cards during point of Order" ( During point of Order all players are allowed to talk, but only the person who called Point of order may end it. (to end this you say "End Point of Order")
¤You cant tell anyone the rules, its against the rules, they must learn.
¤When someone plays a wrong card (different suit, out of turn) you give them another card and return the card they just laid and say either "Out of turn" or "Improper card"
¤If someone does not say a reason to why the gave you a card, then you can return the card and giv one to them
¤If you forget a rule and you don't get carded, and someone lays another card down, you got away with it, you cant be carded.
¤If some one doesn't say why they gave you the card The correct Way You card them and say " grammar" but you still keep your card.
¤If you run out of cards to draw you simply put the top card down, shuffle the rest, and begin from where you left off.
[edit] Learning the game
The rules of Mauh are almost totally unknown for those who just start. the only way to learn is to 1) Play and learn as you go 2) Watch other games, and learn 3) Look it up on Wikipedia
[edit] Tips
To play you must have at least one player who knows the rules (This will be the dealer).
The wisest player will deal however if others know the rules more than one player may call illegal plays.
Rules may change depending on who and where Mauh is played so it is best if there is a strong conflict on the "right rule" the native player should deal.
Mow can never stop so you may need more than one deck so shuffle often and add decks (This is needed to done often with new player learning the rules).
