INFERENCE Of MY BOOK
My research primarily began by focusing on the issue of existence in relation to death. This issue is unexplained in science till now, although in scientific practice it is traditionally assumed that existence ends with death. Any short term insecurity about existence, like physical illness, is always a stress on us. So life long knowledge about mortality, thus mortality itself, is a chronic stress for every human.
Concept of the end of existence is denied in religious descriptions denoting afterlife. So those people that believe in afterlife has the opportunity to save themselves from the insecurity of ceasing to exist with death. Researches on the phenomenon of death also support the wellbeing of the true believers in this respect. Surprisingly, most of the time it is forgotten that the concept of existence and death that we nurture as scientific has no true scientific back up, especially any empirical or theoretical study.
All the scientific endeavors are invested to justify the point of death. When the so called scientific concept about the phenomenon of death is tested epistemologically, it proves itself to be wrong. On the other hand the opposite concept (regarding existence), no matter what we call it – non-scientific or religious, proves itself to be true after epistemological testing. So where science is absent and epistemology is used the truth about the phenomenon of death is more like “our existence does not end with death”. This concept is healthy and practically useful too.
It is available for more than thousands of years in the major religions. But even after such availability of the concept, people struggled and failed to define death on other less stable grounds. Thus history shows continuous and progressive deterioration in adjustment with the phenomenon of death encircling the issue of existence. Century after century perception of the death of self became isolated from our everyday life and society just like an intolerable painful stimulus. Recently we are passing through an era of dissociation with the phenomenon of death. Occasional and transient reminders about death are mainly related with others’ death unless we grow old or face any fatal illness of our own. Practically, death of self has been alienated since the last two centuries.
So a better concept failed to prevail in the society even after being well available and was replaced by some unsupportable concept, on analysis, under the unofficial name of science. Exploration and analysis of the history indicates that judgment after death was the point in afterlife concept that became a barrier on way to establishing the better concept of the phenomenon of death. Historical analyses also indicates that for the relative freedom from the ‘judgment after death’ concept, the total concept of life after death or ceaseless life was dumped and it was achieved mainly by some manipulated social changes. But that yielded very transient relief. The worries of judgment and punishment was abolished making death itself a punishment. It became more frustrating, intolerable and confusing. At that time the so called scientific concept filled up the empty space of the previous concept based on ceaseless life.
From then our attitude developed on the basis of the so called scientific concept and it was easier for people to leave the moral obligations behind and change the way of living to more materialistic style. The knowledge of death was never absent; rather it was masked by unhealthy psychological defenses along with the related anxieties. This continuous unhealthy process in adjustment has brought the stage of dissociation with death. Thus the search for morality free materialistic life has encouraged us ultimately to adopt the concept of cessation of existence with death. It caused further deterioration in the attitude towards death, daily lifestyle and overall wellbeing. The masking by defenses persisted and increased on a regular basis. These increasing difficulties remained hidden depicting our life, apparently, as a progressive one. But our materialistic life along with the desire for moral laxity ultimately has trapped us on such a point that now we can’t even enjoy the benefits of being dissociated from the phenomenon of death.
In addition, it might have been contributing to the development of criminality in the society too. Still now our perception about morality and our last for reckless materialistic life is unchanged. And sadly, we deny addressing and approaching this deteriorating and devastating problem. So question comes, what next can happen on the way to this deterioration? Shall this dissociation disseminate in other aspects of life? Shall our identity be at stake? Shall the defenses turn to psychotic ones like delusions? I can’t even anticipate the answers. But it can be well anticipated that they might not be very pleasant for us.
Our current stance about the phenomenon of death is just like the example of a school boy who is denying to pass in the nursery class due to the fear of harder course in the next class and also the last of an ice-cream everyday from the nursery class teacher. He can deny passing for some time, but later he should face worse consequence like expelling from the school. Ultimately he will loose both the ice-cram and the school, thus face harder time. So like many flies that see the bright light of fire as very attractive and jump into it, we are also rushing towards the colorful immoral materialistic life. It is ultimately destroying our scope for a truly peaceful life. So, we could have a destination even in the presence of death. But we are dissociated from it and thus denying our destiny. May be some day we will be dissociated from our origin too, or may be we are already in that now!
Like an individual’s psychiatric illness deteriorates due to the lack of awareness and insight, the condition of our whole civilization is showing very frustrating prognosis. All these apprehensions intensifies when the lack of desire for retrieving basic morality appears as a masked contributing factor with a rigid stance.
But breaking all these chains, if we can see the better truth about death behind the dark cloud of immoral life, the scenario just might change for us. We might not be able to eliminate death from our life but approve its better accommodation after realizing its truer concept. As per my experience, we must reconstruct our view towards morality and realize its true need for a healthier life. Keeping this new death (i.e. new for science) on our mind for renewing our concept with reinforcement will help in the adaptation process with death. But it is really hard to eliminate the desire for moral laxity and last for extreme materialistic lifestyle and thus, ultimately, alter our attitude towards death. Also the extent of defense that has been accumulated against the truth of the phenomenon of death will not let it happen very easily. Even it might be impossible to penetrate our old defensive minds and deliver the message to our hearts. Still, I want to be optimistic. This is the criteria that I have learnt from the nature, and all I have done so far is just by following the nature. My footsteps will be deviated if I fail to hold on to optimism. So I must be optimistic and I expect the same from the readers for the sake of a secured future of our civilization.
