Talk:MathScriptor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Other than a few sites giving information on how to download MathScriptor plus the program's own page, there do not seem to be any sources with which to source this article. I'm not sure what the standards are for notability for software, but thi has got to be a marginal case, unless there's something I'm missing. --Pleasantville (talk) 20:01, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Whatever the sources, this article is way too long. It amounts to a full 'how-to' description of the product. Wikipedia is neither an advertizing board nor a user manual. DJ Clayworth (talk) 21:27, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I've removed this section. Wikipedia is not a repository for user manuals. DJ Clayworth (talk) 16:32, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- While we are here, why is there a table of comparison for Scriptor (a tool for teaching programming) with MATLAB (a data analysis tool) and Mathematica (a symbolic algebra system)? DJ Clayworth (talk) 16:33, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

- Programs developed by professors in academia within the last decade are not going to be cited on the web. Academic journals, such as the Journal of American Chemical Education, have referenced MathScriptor but I don't currently have access to that journal via the web. Either way, as a user of the program (and someone who has taken the MathScriptor course offered at the University of Connecticut) I can assure you the information on the site is accurate. If you wish to verify it for yourself then download the program and check it out. There really is no other way to "prove" that it is true.
- As for the comment about the table comparing MathScriptor with Matlab or Mathematica, the table was not misplaced until DJ Clayworth deleted the statement saying MathScriptor shares similarities with Matlab and Mathematica and that users who want to enjoy the full capabilities of Matlab and Mathematica are wise to start their programming in MathScriptor. I'll re-add this statement. The table clearly shows key similarities between the three programs, the information is accurate, and the information is appropriate for an encyclopedia. You should leave the table alone. I also do not understand your repeated reference to the page as an advertisement. 137.99.122.105 (talk) 11:11, 27 December 2007 (EST)
