Matthew Baseley (born 30/3/1983) is a major part of the Australian Nova radio network.
[edit] Biography
Born in Manly, Matthew is a Sydneysider through and through. Going to Collaroy Plateau Primary School and then Cromer High School. Matthew left high school at the end of year 10(1998) to do an apprenticeship as a PastryChef/Baker.
This is where he first came to the attention of comedians and radio hosts Merrick and Rosso, when Matthew was working in the bakery he was part of a radio competition with Merrick and Rosso - where he was the carry over champion for weeks.
Merrick & Rosso like the cut of his jib enough from that to offer him a job working with them. In October of 2002 Matthew started working at Nova 96.9 as the phone operator for the Merrick & Rosso breakfast show.
Since then Matthew has done a number of jobs around the station from, Receptionist, Casanova (promotions for the station, driving the cars around sydney) Producer, Panel Operator and Announcer.
Matthew teamed up with a fellow Nova Casanova(Paul "Fridgy" Hancock) in 2005 and did a community radio show on Blacktown's 99.9 SWRfm (The Fridgy & Matt Show) after only a few months doing the Midnight - 2am shift, the boys were giving their first real gig on the Central Coasts 104.5 STARfm, then only after 6 months doing the Sunday night shift they were given a break.
Nova969 took a gamble on a couple of homegrown boys giving them the nights shift 7-10pm in the biggest radio market in Australia in 2006. After 3 different shows (The Fridgy and Matty Show, Fridgy and Matty's Nova 19's and Fridgy and Matty's Nova 9's) the pair were separated with Melissa Femia joining them from Melbourne. It wasn't long before the boys were totally replaced with Melissa taking over the show and then Jabba formally from Channel V and then working in Brisbane's Nova 106.9 replaced Matthew.
In 2007 Matthew was appointed anchor of the National Drive Show - "The Akmal Show with Kate Ritchie" and then later in the year it changed to "The Akmal Show with Cal Wilson" in which he did a remarkable job with two radio newbies.
At the beginning of 2008 the anchor of the drive show had changed without a mention of where Matthew had gone, typical in the world of radio. But he has now popped up as the Panel Operator of the highly successful Merrick and Rosso & Kate Ritchie Show the flagship program for the NOVA Network.
