Matthew B. Brown

Matthew B. Brown (born 1964) is a Latter-day Saint (Mormon) author and historian whose emphasis is on the history and doctrine of Joseph Smith and his successors through Brigham Young. He has a degree in History from Brigham Young University and is currently the author of 8 books:

  • Symbols in Stone: Symbolism on the Early Temples of the Restoration (with Paul Thomas Smith, October 1997, Covenant Communications),
  • The Gate of Heaven: Insights on the Doctrines and Symbols of the Temple (October 1999, Covenant Communications),
  • The Plan of Salvation: Doctrinal Notes and Commentary (October 2002, Covenant Communications),
  • Plates of Gold: The Book of Mormon Comes Forth (January 2003- Covenant Communications),
  • Joseph Smith: The Man, The Mission, The Message (2004, Covenant Communications),
  • Receiving Gifts of the Spirit (2005- Covenant Communications),
  • Prophecies- Signs of the Times, Second Coming, Millennium (2006- Covenant Communications), and
  • All Things Restored: Evidences and Witnesses of the Restoration (2007- Covenant Communications).

He occasionally gives lectures at the annual conference of FAIR (Foundation for Apologetic Information & Research) on issues related to the LDS concept of restoration.

His current research projects center on the First Vision, the Articles of Faith, the priesthood, temple restoration and Freemasonry in Nauvoo, Illinois, and parallels between the initiation rituals of the ancient Hebrews and Early Christians.
