Matt Davies (cartoonist)

Matt Davies (born 1966) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist for The Journal News.

[edit] Early life and career

Davies was born in London, UK, and lived there before relocating to the United States in 1983.

After college, he began doing freelance cartoons, before getting hired to draw for a chain of eleven Gannett Suburban Newspapers (based in Westchester, NY) in April 1993. The newspaper would merge to create The Journal News, where Davies is on staff to this day.

Davies is syndicated by Tribune Media Services; previously, he was with United Media.

Davies was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 2004 and the inaugural Herblock Prize that same year. Davies was also awarded the 2001 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for cartooning, and is a five-time winner of the Deadline Club Award from the NYC Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and won five first-prize awards from New York Associated Press Editorial Cartooning Competition.
