The Mat (Albanian indefinite form, the definite form is Mati, from Ancient greek Mathis, Μαθις) is a river in northern Albania. It rises in the Mat District, which takes it name from the river. About 10 km downstream from the town Burrel it flows into a large reservoir (Liqeni i Ulzës - "Lake Ulzë"). It flows through another, smaller reservoir (Liqeni i Shkopetit - "Lake Shkopet") and forms a narrow gorge through the mountain range that separates the Mat district from the coastal plains.
After a total length of 115 km, the Mat flows into the Adriatic Sea between the towns Lezhë and Laç.
This river was known as Mathis in ancient times.
