[edit] History

I live here in Mason City, and a couple things weren't mentioned about our darker history. Mason City used to have the most strip clubs per capita. Also, A Chicago Mafia Family sent a couple people here to live and be murdered. Mason City's nick name used to be "Sin City" not only because of the previously mentions reasons, but we've also had a lot of drug problems.

Cites, please? I grew up in the area and heard none of this. --Rehcsif 21:19, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, there definitely needs to be some real citations on this, because most of those are just local anecdotes that are either wholly or almost completely total bullshit, just like any other city's local anecdotes. --71.214.208.64 01:50, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
I can only speak for the strip club issue, Mason City was singled out by Time Magazine (April 5th, 1976) in an issue with the cover title "The Porno Plague". Mason City is briefly mentioned in the cover article (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,913997-1,00.html) but also has it's own story in the same issue, "Mason City: A Porn-Fed Town" (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,913998,00.html). I'd be happy to add them to the main page but I have a feeling they'll be edited out just like the crime references that used be on the Mason City wiki page (Dustin Honken murders and Jody Huisentruit abduction) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.161.69.86 (talk) 18:53, 22 March 2007 (UTC).
