[edit] History

YUNiTi was founded in October 2006, and is run by Marcos Boyington and Mateus Boyington. Unlike most other networking sites which are owned by large corporations, YUNiTi is privately owned and funded by Marcos and Mateus. [5]

[edit] Notable Features

[edit] User Validation

Using StrikeForce's ValidateID™ technology, YUNiTi has become the first networking site which allows users (over 18 years of age living in the USA) to prove their identity. The proof of identity is a validated seal displayed on the user's front page. [1]

This feature may have trouble catching on because users are charged $1.50 to be validated[6].

YUNiTi's validation technology could boast benefits to marketers and users in "ensuring [the person they're speaking to] is who they say they are" [7].

[edit] MySpace and Orkut Profile and Friend Import

YUNiTi was the first networking site that allowed users to import their profiles and friends from MySpace and Orkut[8].

[edit] Profile Privacy and Permissions

Users can be completely blocked from viewing a user's profile based on age, gender, or friendship. Different parts of a user's profile can be marked visible to different groups of friends, allowing for more security over personal and private information. [1],[2]

Users have the ability to hide their age from public view, making the site safer for children and teenagers. [3]

[edit] International Registration and User Search

YUNiTi has a global database of cities, regions, and countries, allowing users to register from any part of the world and to find people nearby no matter where they live.[1]
