[edit] Biography

Formed in 1984 as Local Hardcore but soon changed the name to ANXIETY playing their first gig with Nasal Sex in an auditorium at Bellarmine in San Jose, California. By 1985 the first formal lineup was complete with Mark Tippin (lead vocals, guitar), Jeff Maser (bass, vocals), Darryl Sweet (drums, vocals) and Tony Sly (vocals, guitar).

Between 1985 and 1987 the band played many shows around the Bay Area sharing the stage with STIKKY, MDC, The Exploited, The Adolescents, Gang Green, Dag Nasty, Adrenalin O.D., Dr. Know and The Circle Jerks.

The band recorded three demos, Are You The Dumb One?, Instruments of the Passion and Horror Visions before disbanding in 1987.

In 1988, Mark Tippin reformed the band as a trio with Brett Cappelluti (drums) and Corin Stiggall (bass) but soon replaced Brett with Jim Monack to form the next gigging lineup. After assembling new material, this new lineup recorded another demo. Steve Von Till of Neurosis, a good friend of Mark's, recorded and engineered the demo. This lineup played several shows at the Cactus Club in San Jose, California, The Gilman Street Project in Berkeley, California and one show with STIKKY, Plaid Retina and Peace Test at The Place in Davis California.

Later that year Corin Stiggall left to pursue a Jazz career in New York. Although Johnboy McGeechan stepped in to play bass for one more show at the Cactus Club, this lineup disbanded in 1989.

Ten years later, Mark contacted fellow musicians Chris Wilder and Todd Wilder (from STIKKY) about re-forming ANXIETY as another trio. Chris and Todd agreed and practices began. They started writing material for the next recording session. In 2005, after a 3-year gap following 9/11 and the economic downturn in silicon valley, a recording session was finally conducted and the basic tracks for Bleak were recorded. Bleak was released on CD in 2006 on the band's own label, Stress Related Tension Music.
