[edit] Disambiguation

There are many people called Mark Williams - it's one of the most common first-last name combinations in Western society. I'd like to create another page for a different Mark Willams, and I think there's a good case for a disambiguation page here. Any objections?

Obviously there will need to be a lot of redirections on other pages but I'm up for sorting that out I think.

[edit] Unsourced material about him being a bad driver

Although I found the comments about Mark's driving amusing, I don't think they are really suitable unless we can have some proof, e.g. how many points he has on his license! What does anyone else think? [The previous unsigned comment was added by Hesperus (talk · contribs), 11:26, 2 April 2006 (UTC).]

Such material should simply be removed, per WP:BLP. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 16:39, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

"demonstrated his intentions to dominate the game"? That doesn't sound like an encyclopedia line. Doesn't any young, promising, player in any sport want to dominate that sport? Surely, that can be stated better... something like mentioning potential to be at the very top? 72.184.115.50 17:18, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image

Can we have an image please, I'm not an expert on image collecting [The previous unsigned comment was added by Cream147 (talk · contribs), 07:39, 21 March 2007 (UTC).]

[edit] Children

They've got another one now, or are expecting one or something. I think she's had it. Look into it. [The previous unsigned comment was added by WilliamMelvin (talk · contribs), 13:18, 22 April 2007 (UTC).]

Well, find a source and add the information with a source citation. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 16:39, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

When will somebody do their bloody research and find out about his second child rather than just pretend he doesn't have one? [The previous unsigned and misplaced rude comment was added by WilliamMelvin (talk · contribs), 13:30, 29 April 2007 (UTC)]

Get to it, then. It's about time you did something non-disruptive at Wikipedia for a change. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 00:44, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The other Mark Williams of snooker

The other M.W. mentioned in the article needs a middle initial and at least a stub article so that the two can be told apart in the stats. Both were active in 1990s, overlappingly. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 15:36, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This article is pretty poor

This article is really bad, I'd recommend deleting everything but the infobox and starting again. Mglovesfun 14:45, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I've added some references and removed some of the POV statements, but it needs a lot more work (the personal info and career info are mixed together, and there's still some POV stuff present). I'll try and rewrite it later when i've got some more time, if noone else does it first. Paul 1978 12:16, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
It's a bit better now but more work to be done to tidy it up and keep folks from over-complicating the introduction with facts that can come further down. bigpad (talk) 19:23, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Colourblindness

I've removed this reference because, although i'm pretty certain i've heard it mentioned in commentary on matches, i can't find any reference to it online.

Due to an eyesight problem he is unable to distinguish between the red and brown balls, which has occasionally required him to request clarification from referees. Paul 1978 23:48, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tidying up

I've sectioned the article into catergories eg, 1992-98, 1999-2003 so that it reads better i've also added a couple of references and expanded his early career, anyone feel it reads better now? Samasnookerfan (talk) 15:44, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Samassnookerfan has done a lot of work on Mark Williams and it is well researched; good on him! On the other hand, and at the risk of sounding churlish, I wonder if it, and articles of other leading snooker players, need to be so biographical and to document their careers year by year or match by natch, almost? The article is part of an enclyopedia and not a potted biography. Let's imagine that a reader is curious about snooker and checks out the articles on the leading players. Would he or she be prepared to read through a blow-by-blow account of their career? Probably not. But if the player's main achievements were documented with perhaps a summary of career highlights, not necessarily covering every year, wouldn't the effect be better? I was referred to the article on Adam Gilchrist as one that was very good. I don't agree actually but it could be a model to follow.
My advice would be to make sure that the key information is there: cut out things that are not necessary (e.g. the ref. to being beaten by a heavier boxer) and see how the article progresses. Comments anyone? bigpad (talk) 21:38, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
