[edit] Export production

What is the exact relation between Marine_snow and export production? Perhaps the articles can be merged?

They are strongly related. Much (but not all) of what comes under the heading of export production is marine snow. Larger lumps of organic material (dead metazoans, etc.) are too large to reasonably be described as marine snow, though they contribute to export production. My suggestion would be to merge export production into this article, making clear that not all export is marine snow. Then redirect export production this way. If we can find some sort of reference to quantify the contribution of marine snow to export, that'd be brilliant. Cheers, --Plumbago 13:49, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No references

there are no in text citations, and the links posted are of poor quality and not peer-reviewed.

This whole page should be re-written, making use of any available literature which is actually peer reviewed, and not from something which looks like a college essay. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattloque (talk • contribs) 14:14, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
