Talk:March Networks
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The statement The technology evolved from a project undertaken at the University of Ottawa laboratory of Ahmed KarmouchAhmed Karmouch needs to be proven - until it is I'm deleting it. As best as I can tell TRIO was a consortium of comapnies that lent equipment and expertise to Dr. karmouches SITE Lab. There is no mention of him on the March Networks web site and no explanation from which project his technology contributed to the march networks product lines. Though he may have been involved, the statement is highly suspect given that March networks was an 2000 amalgamation of Telexis and Elcombe and that Telexis was an operating company for nearly 8 years before that.
Below is the longest bio I could find on Dr. Karmouch through google - The mention of march networks is fleeting. Ahmed Karmouch is Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the School of Information Technology and Engineering, University of Ottawa. He also holds an Industrial Research Chair from the Ottawa Carleton Research Institute and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. Dr. Karmouch is involved in several projects with Telecommunications Research Institute of Ontario, Nortel Networks, Bell Canada, Mitel Networks, National Research Council Canada, Centre National de Recherche Scientique of France, March Networks, Canarie, Communications & Information Technology Ontario (Cito) and TeleLearning National Center of Excellence. His current research interests are in distributed multimedia systems and communications, mobile computing, home architecture and services, context aware, ad hoc communications, and mobile software agents for Telecommunications. Dr. Karmouch has published over 160 papers in the area of multimedia systems, ad hoc communications and mobile agents for Telecommunications. He has served in several program committees, organized several conferences and workshops and served as Guest Editor for IEEE Communications magazine, Computer Communications, MTAP, and others.
Please post any further information in this discussion area to proove the veracity of the removed statement.
[edit] ===========
TRIO is an acronym for Telecom Research In Ontario. It was not a consortium of companies. It was a provincially funded Centre of Excellence that sponsored research into telecom topics. Research done in Dr. Karmouch's lab led to the creation of Telexis. This video technology went into March Networks via Telexis.
- There is no evidence that Dr. Karmouch's technology led directly to the establishment of Telexis. When was Dr Karmouch's involvement? During its time as Applied Silicon? How was the technology divested? Who from Dr. Karmouch's lab actually went with the technology to Telexis? As the company was founded in 1986 and Dr. Karmouch was with BULL SA in Paris - Please provide proof that telexis was born out of Karmouch's lab since his lab did not exist at that time. The statement you've added to the article "This technolgy (sic) evolved from a projct (sic) done in lab of Prof. Ahmed Karmouch at the University of Ottawa." should be if you can proove the statement: "The company sponsored reasearch through TRIO (now CITO)in Dr. Karmouch's Labs in Ottawa. This technology was then used by Telexis to develop a new product line."--Mrr1979 21:13, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Buddy, first of all, learn to spell "prove", and "research". Second of all, stop hating on Karmouch if you know what's good for you. Finally, don't make me lyrically annihilate you. --Vinsanity
- I'm not hating on the guy - but claiming that research done in his lab led directly to the establishment of March Networks (telexis) doesn't fit the facts. I know that it's likely the comments were added by students or co-workers who remember the commercialization of some of his technology (through telexis.) But the claim in the original statement is a bit much. It's not as though I just want to erase his contribution - I've searched every article written about March Networks (telexis/televitesse) on FPinformart (since the mid 80s), I've check their prospectus, I used the wayback-machine to search early versions of the website - Karmouch is never mentioned in regards to the company. Usually - when there has been public/private sector research there is a trail to find. And thanks for the help with my spelling. - Mrr1979 21:42, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification, and I apologize for the inconvenience. I will try to talk to Dr. Karmouch, and see what I can find out. - Vinsanity
[edit] March Networks and Walmart
Should something be written about this topic? It is probably one of the biggest (negative?) news for March Networks in a while is it not?
