Mary Colum

Mary Colum (June 13, 1884 – 1957) was an Irish literary critic.
Mary Gunning Maguire was born in Collooney, County Sligo, and graduated from the National University of Ireland. She married the poet Padraic Colum in 1912, and moved to the United States with him in 1914. She was known as Molly in literary circles, and was granted a Guggenheim Fellowship in Literary Criticism in 1930. She authored over 160 reviews and essays for many publications, including Scribner's, The Nation, The New Republic and The New York Times Book Review, where she was the poetry reviewer during the 1940's.
