Martin "Youth" Glover (born December 27, 1960) is an influential record producer and a founding member and bassist of the UK band Killing Joke. Glover was born in Africa.

Glover is named after the reggae chanter Big Youth, who was hugely popular with late 70's London punk bands.

Killing Joke were equally fascinated by reggae and dub -- Their use of dub techniques from an early stage of their career in tunes like "Turn to Red" ( produced by Creation Rebel sound engineer Mark Lusardi) and later in their 12" discomixes like the metal dub funk of "Follow the Leader" showed how innovative they were -- and how different they were from most of their leaden post punk contemporaries/competitors.

Arguably, that reggae and dub influence lessened significantly when Youth left the band, to be replaced by a more overwhelmingly industrial metal sound.

After leaving Killing Joke, Youth played in his own commercially oriented dub funk band, Brilliant. The band did not live up to the awe inspiring force of Kiling Joke, and soon disbanded.

Arguably, the main problem was that whilst Killing Joke had been intense and original, fusing funk, dub, and AC/DC style power chords -- Brilliant were, in contrast, simply too pop friendly for Youth's previous Killing Joke fan base. However, clearly the project gave Youth the chance to experiment further with funk and dub production techniques, as shown by the discomix version side of "Just What Good Friends are For" , with its spacious bass and percussion interplay.

Soon after exiting Killing Joke, Youth also started the WAU! Mr Modo label, releasing a selection of industrial techno dubs, and heavy sound system dubs from artists like Napthali, Mannasseh, Bim Sherman and Jah Warrior. These discomixes, released in the late 80's, are long deleted and fetch high sums in private sales. The dubs of "Year 2000 Style" and a recut of Bim Sherman's "Must be a Dream" are particularly sought after.

WAU! Mr Modo also released the ground breaking "Sound Iration" album, which was very well received by the underground roots/dub audiences of the late 80's. Jah Shaka regularly played tracks off the album in his sound system sessions, and the album very much defined and signified a renewed interest in dub in England at that time, exploring digital rhythms within a roots context.

Youth's connections with dub continued in the mid 90's when he was asked by Adrian Sherwood to remix some of Bim Sherman's tracks for a reworking of the "Miracle" album.

He also recently appeared on a Ted Parsons/NIC dub album. The remix Youth contributes opens with a sample from Glen Brown's "Version '78",a track originally released on the South East label, engineered by King Tubby's.

His Butterfly Records label has produced such artists as Take That, Tom Jones, The Orb, Paul McCartney, Maria McKee and Heather Nova. Youth was the co-producer of The Verve's famous Urban Hymns album, Guns N' Roses' as-yet unreleased Chinese Democracy and Dolores O'Riordan's 'Are You Listening?' album[1]. He also produced and remixed for other bands including Embrace, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Art of Noise, Crowded House, Zoe, P.M. Dawn, Yazoo, Erasure, U2, Bananarama, INXS, James, Wet Wet Wet, Depeche Mode, The Shamen, Texas and Gravity Kills.

Youth won the Producer Of The Year award in 1998 for his work on The Verve album Urban Hymns.

Glover is also credited with founding the first psychedelic trance record label, Dragonfly Records. Youth also formed other record labels such as Liquid Sound Design and Kamaflage Records. He is well known on the psychedelic trance scene and participated in collaborations such as Celtic Cross (with Simon Posford), The Fireman (with Paul McCartney), Dub Trees (with Greg Hunter etc.), and Zodiac Youth.

He is a member of the band Transmission with Simon Tong (of The Verve), Paul Ferguson (of Killing Joke) and Tim Bran (of Dreadzone) which has released a single called "Noctolucent" and an album "Beyond Light" in 2006.[1] He has also played guitar on several tracks on the 2007 Client album "Heartland".

Currently, (as of autumn 2007) he is producing the forthcoming Infadels album for Wall Of Sound.
