Martian Through Georgia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Martian Through Georgia is a 1962 Looney Tunes cartoon, directed by Chuck Jones and Abe Levitow, and produced by Warner Bros., although it features none of the established Warner Bros. characters. It is a "one-off" tale of a sad and bored Martian who travels to Earth in search of happiness. He lands his spaceship in the state of Georgia, hence the title. Once there, he decides he must impart his knowledge upon Earthlings; indeed he believes this is what will bring him happiness. However, the people of Earth panic, perceiving him as a monster. Ultimately he realizes he doesn't belong and returns home.
[edit] Censorship
- Most TV versions (particularly on the channels ABC, WB, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network) of this cartoon cut the part where the Martian is running through the abstract hell of people yelling and screaming and the narrator tells him that the Martian can commit suicide if he truly feels that no one loves him. While the other three channels used a fake black-out to delete the scene, Cartoon Network had a frozen shot of the Martian holding his ears to cut the shot of the Martian putting his space gun to his head and the narrator's line, "Commit suicide? Why not?" cut.
