José Martín Cáceres (born March 17, 1987 in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan football player who is currently playing for F.C. Barcelona. His primary position is central defender.

In February 2007, he signed for Villarreal CF in Spain for five years on a free transfer from Uruguayan football club Defensor Sporting Club. He was on loan to Recreativo de Huelva in 2007-08 season, but he was transferred to F.C Barcelona at the end of the season.

On January 9, 2008, Cáceres scored a vital goal against Villarreal, the team that owned his rights by this day, in a Copa del Rey match which Huelva won 1-0.

Cáceres joined FC Barcelona on June 4, 2008 with a reported transfer fee of €16.5 million being paid to Villarreal. A buyout clause of €50 million was included in the deal, which runs through the end of the 2012 season.[1]

He played with the Uruguay under-20 team in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, held in Canada. He also formed part of the Uruguay under-20 team that won the 2007 South American Youth Championship.
