Mars Needs Women is a science fiction film released in 1967, which features Tommy Kirk, Yvonne Craig, and Byron Lord.
The film is probably best remembered just for its goofy title, and particularly for the announcer in the film's trailer, speaking the title in a loud and echoing voice. The acting and plot are non-existent. Mars Needs Women's premise is that a military decoding station has intercepted a message, only three words, "Mars Needs Women". As the plot unfolds, the viewer learns that Mars has discovered that a genetic problem causes only male babies. They launch a non-violent mission to earth to recruit volunteer women to come to Mars. There are long sequences taken from military videos (X-15 in particular) that fill the time. This movie is similar to Plan 9 From Outer Space, in that its poor quality makes it a cult favorite. Several scenes in this movie were filmed in Dallas. In particular, the Southland Life building is visible as the Martians drive among the humans. The film was directed by Larry Buchanan and produced by his company, Azalea Pictures.
